Curious & Curiouser Podcast, Episode 65: Body Image, Beauty Ideals, & the Moralization of Physical Appearance

On this week’s episode of the podcast, Tracey and I are revisiting a topic we first discussed on two of the earliest episodes (find those here) of the show last year. They’re talking body image, and asking the following question:

How does our body image impact our ability to be present and engaged in our daily lives?

The topics discussed during this conversation include:  where our culture’s physical ideals come from, how we are taught to moralize physical appearance, why the media you take in is not benign, what role men can play in changing societal expectations around women’s bodies, and how you can start to change the story you tell yourself about your own body.

Tracey and I also offer a ton of resources — all of which are listed below — and have a lively discussion about the dos and don’ts of commenting on other people’s bodies.

Listen to the episode and please send us feedback if you have it. Tracey and I would love to hear from you! And if you’re enjoying the show, please also consider leaving a review or 5-star rating in iTunes. It takes two minutes and would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget! You can now donate to the podcast through PayPal by going here or by sending your donation to curiousandcuriouserpodcast@gmail.com from your PayPal account. Tracey and I want to be able to continue making the show and would like to also improve sound quality, etc. going forward, but we need your help to make this happen. Even a $1 donation makes a difference. So, if you’ve been listening for a while and you’ve been helped by anything we’ve said on the show, please consider making a donation today. Thanks, y’all!

Piquing Our Curiosity:

Radar, a wonderful restaurant here in Portland, Oregon, located on Mississippi just south of Shaver St. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Portland and I go here at least once a month for either dinner or brunch. So make sure you say hi if you see me! Find out more about Radar here, where you can also make a reservation (gasp!).

Remember, if you have any topics or questions you’d like us to address in a future episode, comment here or email us at our joint email account:  curiousandcuriouserpodcast@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you!

Finally, one more request for you to please head over to iTunes and leave us a 5-star rating and/or review if you’re enjoying the podcast.
